كحل
الكحل أو الاثمد هو حجر بيطحن ليستخدم مسحوقه لتكحيل العيون ويستخدم فى الغالب كمادة للتجميل للستات لكن هناك بعض الرجال يضعون الكحل لكن بشكل غير منتشر.[1][2] وعادة الاكتحال منتشره فى الشرق الأوسط وشمال افريقيا والمغرب العربى وجنوب آسيا وبعض من أجزاء افريقيا تحت الصحراء الكبرى جغرافيا.

عرف المصريين القدماء من كل الطبقات الاجتماعية الكحل واستخدموه فى الأصل كحمايه ضد أمراض العين من زمن حضارة نقادة التالتة (حوالى 3100 قبل الميلاد)،[3] كان فيه كمان اعتقاد بأن اللون الأسود للجلد حول العينين يحمى من أشعة الشمس القاسية.[4]
