تمت ترجمه العهد القديم للبيشيتا من العبريه, على الرغم من ان تاريخ و ظروف داه موش واضحه تماما. ممكن يكون المترجمين من اليهود اللى بيتكلمو بالسريانيه أو اليهود الأوائل اللى اتحولو للمسيحيه, و مكن يكون تمت الترجمه بشكل منفصل لنصوص مختلفه , و من المحتمل يكون الشغل كله تم بحلول القرن التانى, تم العثور على معظم الكتب القانونيه فى العهد القديم باللغه السريانيه.
