This is a group of templates that provide an easy method to link to population statistics for English districts. The templates are updated from time to time as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) releases new data, thus it should not be necessary to manually update the articles or their references. Districts are identified by passing either an ONS code or a GSS code as a parameter. The Office for National Statistics began using the new GSS codes in preference to the old ONS codes in January 2011. As of July 2012 these templates support both codes, but future updates may only be available for the GSS codes, hence use of the GSS code is preferred. A list of both codes is at ONS coding system.

The ONS data can be used by passing ONS=(code) to the template instead of GSS=(code). The GSS parameter will take precedence if both are passed.
