Interview regarding the 500,000 article milestoneتعديل

Hello User:Ghaly, thank you for agreeing to a short interview. Please pardon the formatting of this message. I am writing in English, which is a left to right language, and Egyptian Arabic is a right to left language. Some of my punctuation marks in English on this wiki are being placed in right to left order so I have removed them

Congratulations for reaching 500,000 articles on Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. Which was the milestone article, and who created it

I think that many people around the world know of the Arabic language, but may not know of Egyptian Arabic. Would you briefly describe Egyptian Arabic

If you can, please describe the early history of Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. When did it start, who started it, and how were its first few years of history

How significant are the contributions of Wikipedia Education Program students to Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia

How would you describe the people who currently contribute to Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia

Are there any significant challenges or goals that the community of contributors has in the next few years

There are people from many nations who contribute to diverse language editions of Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, and who will read this interview. Is there any message that you would like to share with them

I have a request that is not a part of the main interview. I will include this interview in a newsletter that will probably have its name be “For what are you grateful?”, and I like to have translations of the title of the newsletter into diverse languages. Would you please translate “For what are you grateful?” into Egyptian Arabic

Thank you very much

Interviewتعديل

Congratulations for reaching 500,000 articles on Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. Which was the milestone article, and who created it?

I think that many people around the world know of the Arabic language, but may not know of Egyptian Arabic. Would you briefly describe Egyptian Arabic

    • Egyptian Arabic (Masry) is the Mother tongue of millions of Egyptians. Developed as later stage of Egyptian Language. Its Grammar is based on its Egyptian origin and it is written mainly in Arabic letters. Masry is used in literature, television, films, theatre, and day to day activities.

If you can, please describe the early history of Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. When did it start, who started it, and how were its first few years of history?

    • I have submitted the proposal to language committee on 30 March 2008 then started Wikipedia Masry as a developing project on 2 April 2008 in the incubator. The approval was officially announced in Wikimania conference in Alexandria in July 2008. By the time Wikipedia Masry URL started in November 2008, there was many articles in the incubator. All of them were transferred to the new URL.

A community continued to develop, and active users were encouraged to contribute in their preferred field. Number of articles continued to grow , especially by contributions from Mahmudmasri: ,    and Ramsis II:. Many of the debates were about writing in Masry and keeping the articles neutral. These were mostly addressed amicably within the community. Contributions from Raafat: , Meno25: , M777: , حمدى10: and El Gaafary: helped to further develop Wikipedia Masry. Relatively , the development of Wikipedia Masry was gathering pace from the start, helped by the amicable interaction between the active users. Recently HitomiAkane: and Al-Dandoon: have added many more articles to Wikipedia Masry , which enabled reaching the half a million milestone.

How significant are the contributions of Wikipedia Education Program students to Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia

    • I am not aware of contributions made by Wikipedia Education Program students to Egyptian Arabic (Masry) Wikipedia. I will be happy to discuss this further if you can point them out.

How would you describe the people who currently contribute to Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia

    • From my point of view, I have always enjoyed being a member of this community and still do. The users are all volunteers who give their time, effort, and knowledge to develop a Masry encyclopaedia. Their aim is to provide information in a language that is used in day to day life, to make this information understood by many more people. Their efforts, enthusiasm and dedication never fail to amaze me. Their polite manner in addressing each other always humbles me. I am immensely proud to be part of this community.

Are there any significant challenges or goals that the community of contributors has in the next few years

    • Continuing to develop Wikipedia Masry is a never-ending work. The active users are aiming to increase quality and numbers of articles. Reaching another milestone will be the One million articles. The community is hoping to reach many more users and encourage them to contribute.

There are people from many nations who contribute to diverse language editions of Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, and who will read this interview. Is there any message that you would like to share with them?

    • Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider adding your knowledge to what should be considered the largest encyclopaedia in the world. It is beyond words to describe the sense of achievement and pride when I see my contributions included in articles in my mother tongue. Choose the topic that interests you and contribute in your own pace.

I have a request that is not a part of the main interview. I will include this interview in a newsletter that will probably have its name be “For what are you grateful?”, and I like to have translations of the title of the newsletter into diverse languages. Would you please translate “For what are you grateful?” into Egyptian Arabic

Thank you, Ghaly. Please let me know what you think of this draft. This location for the page is temporary. The page will move when the next issue of The Signpost is published. I included some photos of Wikimedians in Egypt, although I do not know if they contributed to the Masry Wikipedia. The Egyptian students in the photos probably contributed to Arabic Wikipedia. If you think that the photo is not appropriate then I can remove it and try to find a replacement

Draftتعديل

  • Pine: Thank you very much for showing me the draft.

I don't know anyone whose picture is shown . They might be contributors in Arabic Wikipedia. I am not sure they are contributors on wikipedia Masry The last paragraph , the Masry words can be removed and only English words included. The text should be :

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider adding your knowledge to Wikipedia. It is beyond words to describe the sense of achievement and pride when I see my contributions included in articles in my mother tongue. Choose the topic that interests you and contribute in your own pace.

Translation of “For what are you grateful?” should be انت ممتن لايه؟

Kind regards. --Ghaly (مناقشه) 20:46، 17 مايو 2020 (يو تى سى)

Thank you Ghaly Are there any photos that you suggest for the draft article Pine (مناقشه) 01:30، 19 مايو 2020 (يو تى سى)

    • Thank you for asking. The photos from Egypt look nice. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any photos that show users who participate in wikipedia masry regularly. --Ghaly (مناقشه) 16:30، 19 مايو 2020 (يو تى سى)

Hello Ghaly thanks for letting me know. I will mark the draft page for the article as being ready for copyediting Pine (مناقشه) 18:20، 20 مايو 2020 (يو تى سى)

Hello Ghaly the copyediting is finished. The Signpost will probably publish the issue within 24 hours. One notable change is that the English Wikipedia uses the spelling "Masri" instead of "Masry", and the spelling was changed in the interview. I think that the other changes are minor. You are welcome to edit the page if you think that it needs any changes. Thank you very much for your contributions
